Aeroacoustics and Noise of Air Vehicles I
COURSE CONTENT
Basic principles of aeroacoustics and their application in the study of aircraft noise propagation. Wave equation for plane, cylindrically and spherically spreading sound waves. Noise propagation in the atmosphere: ground reflections, diffractions around solid obstacles, refraction by a horizontally stratified atmosphere, sound transmission through the fuselage, atmospheric absorption and dispersion.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Learning outcomes upon successful completion of course requirements:
Knowledge: Mechanisms and phenomena involved in aircraft noise propagation. Acquired knowledge is useful in other noise-related courses and in real life applications for predicting aircraft noise footprint on the ground
Skills:
- Software development (basic/medium level),
- Software de-bugging (basic/medium level),
- Critical evaluation of assumption and results (theoretical and numerical).
- Technical writing
Desired competence: Computation of noise footprint of an air vehicle in complex propagation environments (real atmosphere and ground topography)
