Mechanics (Vibrations)
COURSE CONTENT
Introduction to oscillations, Discrete system vibrations: Free and forced vibration of systems of a single degree of freedom with and without damping, Free and forced vibration of two degrees of freedom with and without damping, Free and forced oscillation of many degrees of freedom with and without damping, Analysis of eigen-modes, Energy approach of the vibrations of discrete systems, Continuous media vibrations: Free and forced string vibration, longitudinal beam vibration, torsional beam vibration, bending beam vibration, Waves: Difference between vibration and wave propagation, Wave propagation on taut string and beam.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The goal of this module is to provide with the student of Mechanical Engineering & Aeronautics the fundamental knowledge on Mechanical Vibrations. This background is essential for a series of higher level undergraduate modules such as Introduction to Finite Elements, Finite Element Methods For Structural Analysis, Dynamics Of Structures, Wave Propagation And Scattering etc.
